Advanced Yoga Philosophy – Part 1
September 22, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - September 24, 2017 @ 3:00 pm EDT
$240Explore the origins of yoga philosophy, the relationship of Yoga to Sankhya and Vedanta, the interdependence of faith and knowledge, the key elements of yoga psychology, and the essential tension between traditional yoga and modern culture. On Saturday encounter the first lesson of the Bhagavad Gita: we are eternal spiritual beings having a temporary material experience. This teaching proposes that we are not created beings, having never come into being nor ever ceasing to be. We’ll explore the implications of this radical idea along with alternative interpretations of this teaching.
On Sunday, explore karma and samsara: the transmigration of the soul through a cycle of repeated birth and death in accordance with reactions to past actions. This is an essential and often misunderstood component to yoga philosophy that comprehensively reconciles the relationship between destiny and free will.
Yoga philosophy provides a set of ethical imperatives that inform moral choices, establishes an existential condition that’s conducive to the perception of transcendence, and describes actions that transcend reaction: we’ll look at the moral philosophy upon which a lifestyle of yoga is based.
