Practical Sanskrit for Yoga Teachers

March 2, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST

$55

An introduction to the original language of yoga. This workshop is specifically tailored to yoga instructors, both new teachers and seasoned, and will include lecture, discussion, and experiential learning.

A basic familiarity with Sanskrit, the original language of yoga, empowers teachers to speak about yoga poses, mantra yoga meditation, and the yoga tradition on a deeper level. It also enables you to evaluate and contextualize different translations and interpretations of yoga wisdom texts.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to read and pronounce transliterated Sanskrit, how to teach mantra meditation, how to chant Sanskrit sutras and verses with simple meters, and how understanding the meaning of Sanskrit words helps to illuminate the philosophy of yoga. Participants will gain confidence in using Sanskrit terminology in classes and acquire new insights into the theory and practice of yoga.

SPECIAL BONUS – You’ll learn super simple ways to play a harmonium while chanting: it’s easier than you might think.

What to bring: Notebook and pen. Please wear comfortable attire and be prepared to do a lot of chanting.

Tuition: $55 by Feb 2 | $65 after Feb 2

There are no refunds given for cancellations within 72 hours of the event.
