Practical Sanskrit for Yoga Teachers

March 10, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 6:00 pm EST

In this workshop we will focus our attention on transliterated Sanskrit: Sanskrit as it is written using the Roman alphabet and pronunciation cues called ‘diacritics’. We’ll work on developing proficiency in pronunciation, examine how Sanskrit words are constructed, explore the significance and proper pronunciation of the names of yoga postures, and dig deep into common terms of yoga philosophy. Participants will also learn to chant mantras – mystical phrases of the Upanishads, sutras – codified transmissions such as those in the Yoga-sutras of Patanjali, and slokas – narrative compositions such as the poetic verses of the Bhagavad-gita. This mini-course is designed to help yoga teachers to develop confidence in their chanting and instructional use of Sanskrit in classes and workshops.

This workshop is part of Faith Hunter’s ‘Spiritually Fly’ 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program.
