Ancient Wisdom for Modern Life
April 28, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 6:30 pm EDT
$125How does yoga’s ancient wisdom help us to understand and respond to the issues and challenges of modern life? In this workshop, We’ll look at what yoga philosophy is, why it matters, how to understand it, and how to practically apply it.
Through lecture, discussion, experiential exercises and breakout group brainstorming, we’ll look at our selves and the world through the lens of yoga philosophy and consider the ways in which yoga philosophy provides both a framework for personal spiritual development and fresh perspectives on contemporary social issues such as sexism, racism, nationalism, cultural appropriation, and climate change.
Participants will learn techniques for studying traditional yoga wisdom texts like the Yoga-sutras and the Bhagavad-gita, simple meditation practices prescribed in those texts, how action based on transcendental knowledge transforms theoretical understanding into personal realization, and how to share personal realizations about yoga philosophy in conversational settings and, for yoga teachers, in classes and workshops.
* This workshop is open to both instructors and students of all levels.
Tuition: $125 by April 1 | $150 after April 1
What to bring: Yoga mat, notebook and pen. Please wear your yoga attire.
